Well… I went to hang out with a gay friend here, as well as with some of his friends (he called me and berated me until I came out with him tonight, which involved going to his house and getting smashed on bloody marys and screwdrivers. I spent a couple of hours there and then thought I’d stop by a gay party on the way back, but everyone apart from me decided that they didn’t want to wait for the [...]

I was going to wish everyone a happy new year, and attempt to write something marginally awe-inspiring about how wonderful this time of year is, blah blah blah, but fuck it all. I’m not doing anything exciting tonight, nor am I spending time with any friends, so I plan to spend this midnight in my room, under the covers with a book or two. I hope all of you have a wonderful time tonight.

…”tension, apprehension and dissension have begun”. “Tenser, said the Tensor. Tenser, said the Tensor. Tension, apprehension and dissension have begun.” I grabbed that jingle off Alfred Bester’s classic SF novel The Demolished Man, where the hero blocks out ESP spying by silently reciting a verse supplied by a jingle writer. Only in my case, tension, apprehension and dissension are very much an active part of life here in Karachi, and not just a jingle in my head.

This week has been nightmarish. I’ve had two cousins getting married, which would be somewhat manageable, were it not for the fact that both parties have planned each and every one of the three major events on the same fucking evening. For the sake of simplicity, here’s the short version. I have a niece getting married, and a cousin getting married (as of the time that I’m typing this, both have officially been married, about 4 or so hours ago). [...]

Now for the final part of the gay party story (which was just under a week ago). Once again, my apologies for the delayed completion of my tale, but the swarm of family members who have descended upon my house like a plague of particularly ravenous locusts, along with their ankle-biting offspring. Fucking kids. I hate children. Anyway, back to the story. Our arrival at the big gay party was heralded by the sounds of Basement Jaxx’s “Romeo”, and a [...]

Asia Weblog Awards 2003 Go here, and vote for me. Please. I have a terrible urge to subvert all of the other religion-heavy and nationalistic blogs. Mainly because I have very little amusement around here, and for a gay man’s site to be voted “Best Pakistan Blog” would piss off everyone SO MUCH!!! Seriously, go ahead. And get all of your friends to do it too. I have very few things in life to look forward to here, so help [...]

Okay, I’m somewhat recovered from the mental shock of having seen a big gay party being held in Karachi…now for the details, which although not as sordid as I would have hoped, are sordid ENOUGH. So, on Saturday evening, I had to go to one of the pre-wedding festivities at a cousin’s house, which was all well and good. About an hour into it, however, I got a phone call from The Other Gay Pakistani at College, who ended up [...]

As you may notice, I’ve added two more sections to this blog (I got REALLY bored at home today, while avoiding Friday prayers). The links to these are on the upper left-hand side of the page–one is to an FAQ, and the other is a Q&A page, where I plan to actually post answers to questions people have sent me. I think this could potentially be very entertaining. It’s not done yet though. I’ll post up here when they’re ready [...]
