So, tonight was awkward for several reasons. One of my closest friends here got engaged tonight, and true to tradition, the event not only ran way beyond its time limit, it was also grotesquely painful. There will be more details to come, but here are the highlights of the evening: 1) I am officially a dirty old man tonight. When pulling up outside my friend’s house (before we went to the hotel where the reception was being held), I saw [...]

I took my first “Power Yoga” class this morning. A few thoughts: 1) How did the Geneva Convention omit yoga? 2) It’s completely unnatural for the body to bend in such a variety of ways, and no matter what anyone says, I refuse to believe otherwise. 3) “Sounds of Nature”, which are ostensibly supposed to soothe and relax you? They do anything but that. I’m a city-dweller. To me, the sounds of nature are cars honking, people swearing, and random [...]

Today’s been an immensely frustrating day. Because of Ramazan, my sleep cycle is completely fucked up, and I find myself going to bed at 5 or 6 in the morning, waking up in the early afternoon, and repeating the entire procedure all over again. Sleep deprivation (36 hours) and self-medication with various prescription sleep aids hasn’t really helped matters either, so as of tomorrow (i.e. today) morning, I’m going to start taking power yoga and Pilates classes, which will, I [...]

Well, I’m proud to announce that as I promised to myself, I went to Eid prayers completely and utterly smashed. I wasn’t falling over, but I was definitely in the late stages of a vodka binge, and…well, lets just say that I’m glad that we’re supposed to close our eyes during prayers (out of deference to Allah, natch), because it gave me the chance to get some sleep. In fact, I’m a little annoyed at how drunk I got last [...]

As Ryan and I discussed last night, Ben Browder from “Farscape” is HOT. I mean, super-hot. I mean, scorchingly hot. He’s got total bedroom eyes, a fantastic body, and the cutest smile, and oh dear God, I’ve just gone back to being 12 years old. This could be a slight problem. In any case, at the urging of many friends, I decided to see if I could locate a copy of “Farscape” around here. I feel a little bit gypped [...]

One of my closest friends from college, T.S., arrived in Karachi in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, which was the 2nd of this month. Her first 24 hours here were interesting, to say the least. Let me explain. Sin: So, welcome to Karachi! T.S.: Thanks! It’s hot here. Sin: I know. And it’s only 4:00 in the morning. T.S.: Jesus. How’m I going to make it through the day? Sin: I suggest that you sleep and lounge [...]

After much agony, I’ve finally managed to make my warped and much-befuddled way over to my own domain name. Although a relatively minor step in the greater dance that is my life, I nonetheless think that it’s absolutely thrilling. And if you don’t, piss off. It’s taken me 4 days to get this damn’ thing up and running, and it was still only thanks to a fantastic human being named Podz on the WordPress forums, that I’m going live within [...]

I won’t waste time or energy here (yet), in going off about the whole 2004 US Election…many people far more eloquent and better-qualified will be doing that for many weeks to come. I wanted to rant and rave at the US populace as a whole for not managing to oust this cretin from power, but in the end, I’ve found that all my sentiments boil down to one basic thing, as stated below. I’m so very sorry. You have my [...]

Given that I can’t really do anything regarding the US election from here in Karachi, I’m contenting myself with sticking several dozen pins into each one of my many non-politician-specific voodoo dolls. You can decide which ones got perforated by observing the result(s) of the election. Also, am preparing to move off TypePad. I have yet to pick a hosting site and teach myself how to use MovableType, but I predict that in about a fortnight (that’s two weeks), I’ll [...]
