If anyone’s interested in good young-adult fiction, which if not actually surpassing, at the very least borders a hefty chunk of the rubbish being put out there (Da Vinci Code, I’m looking at YOU), I’d like to make a recommendation: Diane Duane’s Young Wizards series. I find it particularly interesting because I came across the first book in the series (which is still continuing, but not in an interminable manner since each book can stand alone, ROBERT JORDAN) back in [...]

I’ve not seen The House of Flying Daggers in quite some time, despite owning approximately 300 copies of the DVD, so I figured that today’s day of misery would be a good time to catch up on my list of movies to (re)watch. And I’m so glad I did, because Takeshi Kaneshiro is just blisteringly hot. My fever had broken an hour ago, but now that I have him back on-screen, I’m feeling rather warm all over again. Wikipedia has [...]

There’s something just cosmically unfair about going out for only an hour or two to a club, having a grand total of three drinks in the face of watching two people with whom you’ve hooked up (UMich and IrishArchitect) make out with each other while your friends goggle in disbelief, coming home at a reasonable hour and falling asleep only to wake up with a fever, a blocked nose, a closed-up throat, and other such sensations, including a missed call [...]

I got another hundred-odd books from the Redheaded Wench in the mail last night, one of which was my hardcover copy of Jack the Bodiless. Flicking through it this afternoon, while waiting for my lunch to finish cooking, I came across this conversation between two of the more ancillary characters: “One knows that love is mysterious. That it means different things to different human entities. That it can exalt and magnify, and also degrade and destroy. That it cannot be [...]

My laptop caught fire last night, so posts will most likely be few and far-between until I can get another one. Recommendations for something new will be appreciated. Just don’t suggest a Mac. I think they’re fantastic machines, it’s just that none of the Apple laptops are in my current price range.

So the moment(s) of revelation that I had last night, walking down past the Ritz on Piccadilly, drenched in and reeking of alcohol: 1) I need to sit down and figure out how the hell I’m going to pass my law exams this summer. If anyone has experience with these things, in terms of helping me come up with a (realistic) study/revision scenario for the next couple of months, please don’t be shy about getting in touch. Seriously. Advice on [...]

[From the PA system at Heathrow Terminal 3]: Passenger Jack Twist, repeat, Jack Twist, Mr. Ennis del Mar is waiting for you at the meeting point. Every queen at the airport cracked up simultaneously. Awesome.

I rather pride myself on being somewhat inured to the ways of the world, and to most nasty things. Law isn’t about justice, justice isn’t about fairness, being the strongest or the biggest almost never means doing the right thing, and knowing how to enjoy life or plunge into it doesn’t have to be an externalised process. Fair enough. I can cope with all of that. I’ve dealt with some of it, witnessed more of it, and been accused of [...]

I had to attend a family thing (again) that Sunday evening, so after Neil and I attempted to have some sort of coherent conversation for about 35 seconds that morning, I hung up, rolled over in a vain attempt to reclaim some bed-sheets from Ryan, and fell asleep again. By the time I woke up, showered, changed, purged the alcohol from my pores and headed off to my brother’s, it was almost five in the afternoon. Note please, to all [...]
