As most of my friends know, I'm not the world's biggest fan of Will & Grace, but given that most days when I get home, I'm too tired to do anything but watch episodes of a TV show, I wound up borrowing the first two seasons of the series from the Financier a week or so ago.  And last night, before going to Urban Desi and Heaven (a story in and of itself), I went by the Financier's place and [...]

There's nothing quite so…awkward…as loneliness, is there?

I realised about a fortnight ago, on my way over to the Financier's house for his pre-Heaven birthday drinks that my general disenchantment with queer brown folk (the desis, basically) is less rooted in–as I once thought–resentment at no longer being the only South Asian with a proto-British accent, and is almost entirely based on the fact that the ones I've met to date (with notable exceptions) are idiots. OK, maybe "idiots" is too harsh.  "Intellectually challenged" perhaps?  One thing's [...]

You know, the whole "objectification of any woman within a three-mile radius" issue that the guys around the office engage in on a daily basis isn't offensive (to me at least) simply on the basis of its crudity and volume.  Crassness isn't that disturbing; it's the complete and utter lack of imagination that's the REAL issue. That's why it's funnier when gay men talk about guys.  It's not just "He's so hot", or "Check out the size of THOSE" (make [...]

If there's only ever one critical lesson to be learned from any job, be it temporary or permanent, an internship or a C-class position, it is simply this: always befriend the secretaries and/or the administrative assistants. OK as far as pithy insight goes, that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue with ease.  But it's true. You can also befriend the smokers, but I don't recommend that quite as much unless you too are a smoker.  In that case, if you [...]

That's right.   I'm a lawyer.  I passed all seven exams first time.  How much do I rock?

A selection of the lines that made my Monday tolerable: In an e-mail from the Redheaded Wench: "I'm sorry i-banking is full of frat boys and other pastries you can't touch." A voice-mail from Big Brother, regarding his flight: "The animal [baby nephew] decided to make his presence known to all by yodelling his way through a 12-hour journey.  He also needed approximately 19 diaper changes." From the flat-mate: "You actually went to the Financier's birthday party?  May your liver [...]

The truth, I strongly suspect, is that love is a bit of a twee (maybe even sad) little illusion, a happy story that we tell ourselves to pretend that even if everything isn't all right now, it will be in the future.  Maybe.  If we hope desperately enough. We're not talking agape here. Sometimes, you wonder…what's the fucking point?  Why even bother?  Does it actually even mean anything? Nope. Good night.

While I don't particularly follow football, and was in fact baby-sitting the night of the World Cup final, I have found myself wondering what the hell Zinedine Zidane was thinking when he decided to head-butt Marco Materazzi in the chest, and why FIFA feels as though they have to investigate it. Actually I take that back.  After seeing his TV interview at work this morning, I completely understand.  In addition to having a truly fabulous name, the man is just [...]

I have no doubt that this post will get me flamed senseless by devotees of the Depp, but after this weekend, I have to say: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was quite crap. And yes, I actually really liked the first movie.  I thought the Depp was fantastic in that, even if Keira Knightley did (and does) have a more masculine presence than all the other male actors combined.  That holds true this time around as well: perhaps Disney should [...]
