Passport? Check. Ticket? Check. Packing? Double-check (I may have to throw out some stuff, because I suspect strongly that I’m over the 30kg weight-limit). Bottle of wine? Check (sort of–I’m rapidly finishing it off, is that legitimate?). Appropriate feelings of melancholy? Check. And check once again. Perfectly suited song that came on randomly in the iTunes Party Shuffle? Check (and for the record, it’s Madonna’s Another Suitcase in Another Hall, I kid you not). What will I remember most about [...]

Well, an Airbus anyway. It’s odd how all of a sudden, being okay with going back to Karachi is fading and incipient panic is setting in. It’s been a pretty good year, I guess. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how the next few turn out.
You know, the oddest (and most annoying) thing about breaking up with someone? Not knowing why the hell it happened in the first place. And then realising–very belatedly–that although you’re not especially blameworthy, you’re the one chasing after him to try and figure out what the fuck went wrong, when really, you’ve made more than a decent number of attempts to communicate, and have been greeted with an absolute absence of response. Just imagine, I didn’t write about it on [...]
I suppose everything has a bit of an up-side. To wit: As of an hour ago, I’m the owner of a spanking new, black 80GB iPod, courtesy of the Richard Attenborough charity event that my brother attended last night. I’m not quite sure why a charity fundraiser gives away iPods to all the attendees (I’m sure it’s one of those mysteries of PR that I just wouldn’t get because I’d think that saving the £250 per head that a brand-new [...]
II’m probably over-thinking this just a wee bit, but I have plenty of spare time for that these days. The summer job is over, and the job hunt has been less than successful, with an assortment of banks informing me post-interview that I, in rapid succession, can’t be sponsored by them for a work-permit, am actually over-qualified for a job in finance, they’ve filled all of their full-time positions with their summer interns, and/or I don’t demonstrate enough pure passion [...]
While I was sitting about trying to figure out which of my books to start packing up first (again, there’s more to come on this in a bit), I started idly leafing through the first couple that came to hand. They happened to be the first three books in Diane Duane’s Tales of the Five series, The Door into Fire, The Door into Shadow and The Door into Sunset. The next couple that reared their delectable covers were Diana Wynne [...]
I realise I’m following through on a tear right now, what with the Club Kali diatribe from last week, but you guys really have to get a fucking CLUE. Who even knows what the damn’ thing is called now, whether it’s the Dakota Bar or the Sky Bar or the pop room or whatever, but everyone knows that when you go into Heaven, on the first floor–not the main dance-floor, but the one up the small flight of stairs past [...]
Dear organisers and managers for Club Kali, I normally enjoy my time at Club Kali substantially. I really do. I like the big friendly lesbian(?) bouncer, the cover charge isn’t particularly excessive, the drinks are reasonably priced… …but the music at Kali has started to SUCK. I don’t go to Club Kali to hear Shakira inform me that her hips don’t lie. I don’t go there to hear Beyonce talk about her baby boy. And I sure as FUCK don’t [...]
I have three things running through my head before my interviews tomorrow afternoon. 1) Would it be possible to orchestrate a three-way sex-scene between Apollo, Baltar and Helo from Battlestar Galactica? Because that would be rather mind-blowing, I’m quite sure. 2) Fake Gay News is awesome. My favourite article, to give you a taste, is “Musical Theatre Major Comes Out, Shocks No One“. 3) How INCREDIBLY unfair is it that John Barrowman has a boyfriend of a decade and plans [...]
I’ve been feeling incredibly run-down and tired-out for the last couple of days. I’m not sure if it’s still the effects of the flu, which I came down with last Thursday or something more, but it’s 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night, and I’m having serious trouble keeping myself awake. I mean, it’s been over a week now, but I’m still getting hot and cold spells, running a fever every once in a while, and just generally being exhausted. Initially I [...]
